OUR HISTORY

The first school building on the Denison site opened in 1922. It had eight rooms and served the upper grades (probably 9 - 12) from 1922 to 1926 when the much larger high school was opened on that site. The 1922 school was then referred to as the annex.

The Denison family had sold acreage to the School Board in the early 20s for the school and later gifted the site of Denison Field to the city for use as a sports venue. It served for many years as the site of the city's baseball field until 1948 when Denison Field was constructed and the site became a football stadium.

In 1957 the high school moved from this site to its current location and the former building and annex became known Denison Junior High School. Do to the the W. A. Denison family's early connection to the school and donation of the athletic field, the city and school board chose to honor them by naming the school in their honor.

In the early 1970s the stucco structure and brick annex were demolished and the present Denison Middle School campus opened.
